I offer through the blog portion of the site an opportunity for discussion, by me and the public, of addiction treatment, recovery, support services, 12 Step Programs, and any other material relevant to addictions and recovery. Newcomers to recovery, old timers, addictions professionals, significant others of a person with a drug or alcohol problem, are all welcome. Registration is required to cut down on spam and other unsavory intrusions.

The brain in humans produces substances called endocannabinoids that act like THC (main ingredient in marijuana) and produce effects related to appetite and pain relief, to name a few. Scientists have found through brain imaging studies changes in the endocannabinoid systems in the brains of persons with eating disorders such as anorexia; the changes may be the result of deficits in the levels of endocannabinoids or due to dysfunction of the endocannabinoid system. So, scientists are speculating that people may be at risk to develop eating disorders as the result of a deficit in endocannabinoids or that the observed changes may be due to the eating disorder itself. Naturally, the pharmaceutical companies and others looking for a quick fix for conditions such as eating disorders are aiming at treating these disorders with THC or other marijuana-like chemicals.
